What’s Blooming in my Garden…..

Flower Collage May 2017Double Pink Columbine; May Night Salvia; Allium – The columbine in my yard are all from my mother-in-law. She’s a great flower gardener and she gave me some dried heads from her yard and I just scattered them around. I have several different colors popping up here and there.  The allium is also from her. I love the tall purple flowers of the May Night Salvia, but it smells like a litter box so they don’t cut and put into flower arrangements.

Irises May 2017Irises – I have several varieties of irises in my yard. These are the ones that are blooming right now.  The giant peach one on the right is from my Grandma’s house.

Begonias May 2017White Begonias – These were part of the flowers I picked out for myself for Mother’s Day. They are in a very shady spot, mostly under a bush where not much of anything grows usually. I hope they work out this year.

Pansies 2017Pansies – A gift from my son and his girlfriend for Mother’s Day this year. Thank you, I love them!

Honeysuckle 2017Honeysuckle – It has crawled up the trellis and taken over the corner of my deck. I just love how  this smells.

Amy Roses May 2017Amy Roses – I’m sure that there a several varieties of roses here, but they all bloom a gorgeous pink. They usually bloom in June, but we’ve had such a mild winter and spring they are early. They are also lasting much longer than usual. I am not complaining one bit.  I call them Amy Roses in memory of my cousin, Amy Rose, whose favorite color was pink.  The blooms were always iffy on these plants until my sweet cousin died in a car accident. Now they bloom like crazy and this year they don’t even have black spot. Thank you Amy Rose for helping my garden grow.

Rhododendron May 2017Rhododendron – This is the best that my rhododendron has done in 18 years here.  I don’t ever recall it having this many flowers and the last few years it has only had a handful. I am thoroughly enjoying it.

20170523_115205I don’t know what this is called. I have never taken the time to look it up, but I just love it! It looks just like grass with little white flowers that bloom. It spreads through the yard, mostly in the shady areas, and when they bloom it looks like I have a field of flowers.

That’s what’s blooming in my garden today. What’s blooming in yours?

Happy Gardening!

Weather was sunny and warm today, 85ish.  We had thunderstorms last night, but nothing damaging.  My plants are loving the sun with rain every couple of days.

I can’t remember if I mentioned that I planted peas on Sunday.  I don’t feel like going back and checking right now.  Today I planted two tomato plants.  They are from my first batch of seed sowing before I had my greenhouse.  They are the only two that survived and they are doing really well, but I forgot to open the doors or vents in the greenhouse today and everything got over heated and very wilty so I planted them in the garden today.

Again, the onions are rockin’!  Even the ones I planted from seeds are growing.  I also have lettuce and spinach coming up.  I can’t really tell how the sweet potatoes are doing because some of them lost their leaves, but the stems are standing tall.  The instructions said that they are very hardy and will grow so I’m talking to them and encouraging them every day.

On the flower front, the columbine and salvia are blooming and adding color to my beds right now.  As of today, I have Irises blooming also, just some that are mauve and magenta colored.  I’m still waiting for the purple and yellow ones and my favorite, the giant peach colored ones.

I discovered what my stray bulbs that grew hair were.  They were not crocuses, they get white flowers with 5 pointy petals.  I believe they are called Star of Israel.  I think I wrote about them on my other blog.  Yep, here’s the link.  My Market Day page is all about gardening if you want to check it out.  I need to get some pictures of the flowers that are blooming now and post them.

My rhododendron is starting to bloom also.  It ALWAYS blooms the week after Memorial Day.  It looks like it will be a little early this year.  People who come over Memorial Day weekend this year will actually get to see them this year.  Yay!

Thanks for stopping by!

Today is sunny and 75o at noon.  It rained overnight.  I didn’t even notice.

The columbine are blooming and the irises are growing their bud stalks.  The rose buds are really growing.  I’m so excited because there are so many.  I can’t wait to see them all bloomed.  I have a climber that is overgrown and has 1 really long stalk that is bent over and kind of in the way.  I was going to cut it off, but there are so many buds on it that I just can’t make myself do it.  After they bloom I will.

Onions are sprouting!  yay!  Potatoes might be or it might be weeds.  I’ll have to wait and see.

Going fishing this afternoon.

Beautiful and sunny today.  Temperature in the mid 70s.  Dug up some irises and liatris that were under a lilac bush and needed to be moved.  I put them in a shady spot until I can plant them.  Watered seedlings in greenhouse.  Ordered black dirt for raised beds.
